E. Martyn Rix

Martyn Rix studied botany at Trinity College, Dublin and at Cambridge University, specialising in Fritillaria in Anatolia and the eastern Mediterranean. A visit to Hakkari in 1965 was the first of many trips throughout Türkiye, and he contributed both Fritillaria and Gagea to Flora of Turkey. He studied also at Zürich University and was botanist for the Royal Horticultural Society at Wisley garden.

For 21 years he was associated with RBG, Kew, as editor of Curtis's Botanical Magazine which publishes original botanical paintings and drawings of plant species, and he has written many books on wild plants and on botanical illustration.
