Burçin Çıngay graduated from the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science and Letters, Eskişehir Osmangazi University in 2008. In the same year, he began his MSc in the Department of Botany at the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences at the same university, completing the program in 2011.

He started his academic career in 2008 as a Herbarium Officer at the Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden (NGBB) in Istanbul, and since 2010 he has been serving as the Head of the Science Department and the Herbarium Curator at the same institution.

In 2009, he enhanced his expertise by receiving training in plant identification and horticulture at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in Scotland. His main areas of specialization include plant systematics, plant ecology, and plant conservation biology. Çıngay has authored numerous national and international publications and has contributed significantly to scientific projects supported by institutions such as TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye), TAGEM (General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies), and various university-based BAP (Scientific Research Projects) programs, as well as projects conducted by public agencies.

In addition, he serves as a contributing researcher and author in the Illustrated Flora of Turkey project, which continues under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye. In 2023, he was appointed Secretary General of the Flora Research Association.
